Backup Your Data Online

Online backup is the best, I strongly recommend using online backups. Backing up your data online prevents data loss if your computer is damaged or stolen—or if your data is wiped by malware.
Several sites online offer free online backup plans. The only difference is that for a free plan there are some restrictions. If you don’t want restrictions such as storage space, then you should opt for the premium plan.
Otherwise if you have just little data to backup, a free backup can serve as a complete and permanent backup solution for life!
Below is a list of free online backup sites that are of very good standard;
CrashPlan this site has been praised for its ease of use and setup, speedy response, and its customer service and support.

Bitcasa Infinite Drive also very good and reliable

Mozy gives you complete control over the scheduling of your backups. You can control how much bandwidth your backup uses to speed up or slow down the process.
You could back up your entire hard drive and, in the event of a computer catastrophe, restore your files. This cloud storage provider has since added file syncing to its repertoire, a move that allowed it to remain relevant and competitive in the growing cloud storage space market.

Others include; Backblaze, Carbonite, SpiderOak.

I can only give very much details about Mozy. Lets’ look at setting up Mozy.
Mozy offers free online storage up to 2GB for free and also has premium payments options too.

Setup is simple and after downloading Mozy from mozy.com, you can specify what you want to backup and when. Mozy will automate your backups and let you decide when it backs up (specific times), what causes it to backup (low CPU usage), and how often (one, two, three etc. times a day.)
In conclusion its’ simple to use.

Without switching them on, it is difficult to differentiate the M9pro from the older M9. The difference is obvious as night and day once the screens are turned on. The Pipo M9 has a 1280 x 800 pixel IPS panel that is good but not excellent. The M9pro has a 1920 x 1200 HFFS IPS screen that looks awesome. It is not just the higher resolution but the brightness and sharpness as well. The viewing angle on the new screen is also rather amazing.

Backup Your Data

Today we shall be looking at backing up your data.
Data backup is essential. There are three main ways you can back up your data and this section will cover them:
1. Local backup.
2. Backup to optical media.
3. Online backup.
Firstly let’s look at local backup.

Backup Your Data Locally
Backing up your data locally includes making copies of files on your PC, a different internal drive, and an external drive. Backing up your data to optical media is also another form of local backup, and then it is necessary to keep your backup in a safe place.
This section will show you how to back your data up locally using Windows backup. In this specific example, I’ll show you how to back your data up to a PC.

Backup Your Data with Windows Backup
             1. Click the Start button, type Backup and click Backup and Restore.

                  2. Click Set up backup.

       3.  Choose where to save your backup. Select DVD RW drive to save on                         optical drive.

             4.   Next you will be asked to choose a method of backing up,by allowing                     windows to do it for you or choosing what you want to backup.

           5.   I recommend choosing the files you want to back up by select "Let me choose" and clicking “Next”.

              6.   Choose the files you’d like to backup (be sure to uncheck “Include a                         system image of drives” if you have already made a system image                             backup or if space is limited on the backup location.)

                    7.   Verify your settings and click “Save settings and run backup”.

                   8.   Set a schedule so backup is automatic. Click OK.

                9.   Your backup will now take place (be sure to not turn off your PC and let                   the optical drive remain in the DVD RW Drive.)

              10.   After the backup go to the DVD where the data was backed up and verify                the data is there.

If you find it then your data is now backed up and will continue automatically according to your schedule.

Maintain Your PC

Today we shall be looking at how to maintain your pc, in a complete sense. That is I will be giving you all a complete guide to maintaining your pc.

Firstly why is system maintenance necessary?
Just like your body system or car need to be cared for, your computer needs care also. So it’s like doing the regular oil change done to a motor car. It even goes beyond this, it helps to free up hard disk space on your system, get rid of unwanted programs, delete temporary files and optimize your system.

Now that you know the importance of system maintenance let’s look at how it can be done. This information am giving to you is actually what engineers charge you between five and ten thousand naira for.

As we all know the internet is flooded with tips and advice on PC cleaning. Much of this advice urges you to buy useless programs that cost hundreds of naira or dollars as the case may be. Look no further: you can follow the guide and get your PC cleaned without spending any money whatsoever. I do recommend programs, which have paid upgrades; however, I am confident these programs, when upgraded, are worth every penny and hundreds of Windows Guides readers (and I’m sure others) agree with me.

Let’s get right into things; to clean and maintain your PC you need to apply the following steps:
         I.      Create a system restore point to protect you from unwanted changes.
        II.      Backup your data.
III.      Keep Windows and installed software up to date.
      IV.      Find and remove malware.
       V.      Uninstall unnecessary programs.
      VI.      Delete junk/temporary files.
     VII.      Optimize your system.
   VIII.      Defragment your hard drive.

Recall that in my write-up yesterday, I treated System Defragmentation. Tomorrow we shall look at number one on this list i.e. creating a system restore point to protect you from unwanted changes. And so we will continue until we exhaust this topic completely.

LET’S TALK ABOUT DISK CLEANUP, SYSTEM BACKUP AND DEFRAGMENTATION

What is system defragmentation?
System defragmentation is simply a process of removing fragments from a hard disk. When you defrag, the operating system removes the gaps between packets of data, moving it all closer to the middle of the disc. This in turn makes the hard drive more accessible and files open easier. You should note that every file in your system is not stored in one place on the hard disk but scattered around. Therefore defragmenting your Hard drive helps to gather these files together in one location and this helps the files to open easier. It will also improve the speed of your PC or laptop, even if it is by a little amount. Startup time will also be shortened.
Defragmentation is preferable for systems using a spinning hard disk, i.e. HDD not SSD. If you defrag an SSD hard disk you will only shorten its lifespan.

Always defragment your hard drive properly - clean up any unwanted files first, run disk cleanup and Scandisk, make a system backup, and then run your defragmenter.
To defragment a disk, defragmentation software (also known as a "defragmenter") can be used. This is an intensive operation and cannot be performed on a system with little or no free space. During defragmentation, system performance will be degraded, and it is best to wait till defragmentation is finished before using your system.

How to defrag Windows 7
Click the Start button. Select All Programs, then Accessories. Choose System Tools, and then select Disk Defragmenter.
Then hit Defragment Now button and it will start defragmenting.
Disk Defragmenter will take a while, possibly even hours, to complete, but you can use your computer throughout the process.

How to defrag Windows 8
Most Windows 8 systems are set to defrag by default every week. So if you haven't changed any settings, you shouldn't need to defrag. But to do it manually, open Search. Now type in 'Defragment'. One of the results will be 'Defragment and optimize your drives'. Select this.
You may also see a dialog box featuring a list of the hard drives in your computer, their media type, when they were last defragged, and how fragmented they are. You really need to defrag only if the drive is more than 10 percent fragmented.
If you can't see a figure in Current status, to find out if a particular drive needs to be optimized highlight it and hit Analyze. Then confirm your choice. This will update the Current status column.

Optionally you can use a third-party defragmenter, such as Auslogics Disk Defrag, rather than the inbuilt Windows utility. It works much faster and more effectively, shortening the time that your hard drive is working at maximum capacity.

HOW TO CREATE LOGOS ON MICROSOFT WORD

STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE FOR CLASSWORK 2
Today we shall be looking at how to create some simple logos on Microsoft Word, this is actually the second classwork in the teaching module I use for my students.

This class work looks at how to create the Texaco & Chevron logos on MS Word.

CREATING THE TEXACO LOGO
Step 1:             Go to the insert tab under illustrations click shapes and select rectangle.
Step 2:             Go to the typing area, click and drag to draw a rectangular shape like this.
Step 3:             Again go to the insert tab under illustrations click shapes and select the oval shape. Click and drag to draw.
Step 4:             Again go to the insert tab under illustrations click shapes and select the star shape. Click and drag to draw.
Step 5:             Go to the insert tab under text, click on word art and select WordArt style 1.
Type the letter “T” and click ok. The word art is created, the next step is to text wrap so that the word art will be movable. With the WORDART still highlighted go to the format tab under arrange click text wrapping and select in front of text.
This makes your shape to be movable.
Step 6:             Place the wordart inside the star shape, allowing the tail of the “T” to touch the inner edge of the star.
Step 7:             Again go to the insert tab under text, click on word art and select WordArt style 1.
Type the word “TEXACO” and click ok. With the WORDART still highlighted go to the format tab under arrange click text wrapping and select in front of text.
Move the Texaco word art to the inside of the rectangle created earlier.
Step 8:             Again go to the insert tab under text, click on word art and select WordArt style 1. Type the combination Ctrl+Alt+R to get the registered trademark symbol. Also rem’ber to text wrap.
Step 9:             Arrange every shape in place.
Step 10:           And now to add color to the work. We click on the trade mark shape to select it and with the control key held down select the Texaco wordart, the oval shape and the T wordart.  Go to the format tab and under shape styles chunk click on the shape fill arrow and select red.
Step 11:           With the highlight still on click on shape outline and select no outline.
Step 12

AND HERE IS WHAT YOU HAVE – A VERY LOVELY LOGO.

CREATING THE CHEVRON LOGO
Step 1:            Go to the insert tab under text, click on word art and select WordArt style 1.
Type the word “Chevron” and click ok. With the WORDART still highlighted go to the format tab under arrange click text wrapping and select in front of text. This enables you to move wordart.
Step 2:             Go to the insert tab under illustrations click shapes and select CHEVRON under block arrows.
Go to the typing area, click and drag to draw the chevron shape as shown.
Go to the format tab with the chevron shape highlighted and under the arrange chunk click rotate and select rotate right 90 degree.
Duplicate the shape using Ctrl D and place the duplicate under the first shape.

The next step is to add color to the shapes.
Select the chevron wordart and the first shape then go to the format tab and under shape styles chunk click on the shape fill arrow and select blue accent 1.
Then select the last shape under and under shape styles chunk click on the shape fill arrow and select red.
And finally your logo is formed, it would be necessary to group it.
To group go to the home tab and the editing chunk, click on select and then select objects. Then click and drag over all the items you wish to group like this.

After the items are highlighted then right click on it, click grouping then group.
